As our Centre of Innovation Manager for Neat Cutting Oils you´ll be responsible for leading research into neat oil technology focusing on metal removal processes as well as supporting in the team management of the Dortmund research and development labs. This is a key role in our structure that allows us to continue evolving our solutions and exceed customer expectations.

What will you do?

 

  • Lead and execute autonomously a broad variety of experimental activities to further the knowledge and state of the art of technologies, leading to the successful completion of research projects.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed knowledge of customer processes in order to enable the continued development of value added technology.
  • Lead research for renewable, green chemicals and overall more sustainable product development aiming to meet our global Sustainability and CSR company goals.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of the performance attributes of competitive products and, as necessary, lead programs to uncover the key attributes that contribute to competitors state of the art technology in order to fill technology gaps or develop advantaged technology.
  • Build a productive and trust based relationship with external and main internal stakeholders such as commercial, strategic marketing and R&D teams.
  • Develop and deliver education programs and seminars for the advancement of the knowledge of Quaker Houghton employees and customers. Our customers are the major automotive, aerospace and industrial market players.
  • Prepare and deliver seminars and technical papers for presentation to customers, trade organizations and professional journals to enhance the technical image of the organization.
  • Manage the data collection, knowledge capture and communication for research projects. Report results in a clear and concise manner to enhance technical exchange. Provide legal and archival documentation for patent applications.

 

What do we look for?

 

  • This position requires a bachelor’s degree in one of these core technology fields: Chemistry, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology, Tribology, Colloids, or Corrosion Engineering. Master’s or PhD highly preferred.
  • 15+ years related scientific experience required. Must be an expert in at least one core technology area and knowledgeable in key customer processes. Equivalent combination of education and experience (minimum bachelor’s degree) will be considered
  • A good command of the English and German language is mandatory. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret advanced scientific and technical journals and financial reports. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Dortmund based role with up to 25% travel, mainly within Germany to visit customer sites.
